I will agree with brrman on his comment. What you put into the car is what you should expect to get out of it. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. Every car has problems.... and if you take it in for servicing you will have to pay as much. What I have done so far with mine is find a good relaible mechanic... and try as much as possible to stay out of the dealership service room.

A car can only be as reliable as its owner.

Overall I'm not impressed with people questioning the reliability of Audis. I was thinking about buying an Audi A4/A6 or S4 and I'm really beginning to question if it is worth it now. Are the B6's more reliable, are you talking about the B5's, or Audi cars in general??

Well if you are expecting the maintanance of a Honda, then you are in for a big suprise. I'm perfectly happy with my Audi, and doubt i'll ever drive another brand. It's just something you have to experience for yourself.

I said it earlier and i'll say it again....
Audi is not the most reliable vehicle produced. By saying this I am in NO WAY SAYING THAT IT IS UNRELIABLE THOUGH !!!
I personally wil never purchase another brand of car as long as i live.... Audi forever.

What you need to do is ask yourself... say, "Self what are my top 3 qualities i am looking for in my next car?"

Me, personally my 3 qualities i want in a car is:
1- Fun to drive, handles well, makes me want to take the long way there.
2- AWD for those snowy months
3- Quality materials used in the constuction of this vehicle

To be blunt, if your looking for the most reliable car on the market, look elsewhere. It doesn't tke a genius to realize that Honda and Toyota have the most reliable cars made. But once again, I am in NO WAY BASHING AUDI'S RELIABILITY. For the record, my 2001 A4 has been in the shop for nothing more than it's scheduled maintenance (scheduled maint. that was free I my add, down to a new battery, wiper blades , oil changes, ALL FREE).

If you want a car that you will enjoy driving, get the Audi. Ther are few Japaneese cars that drive as well as the Germans. Once in a while you MAY have to take it to the mechanic, but it's still FAR SUPERIOR THAN ANY AMERICAN PIECE OF CRAP!! Audi's are NOT un-reliable, just not "the most reliable".

So what where your 3 qualities? If quality of the drive was above reliablity, it's no contest. It's all a matter of personal opinion.
And personally i'd rather enjoy my car for 10 years than drive a bland Jap car for 20.

I agree with everything up to your last sentence. I, myself, have yet to own an Audi. I am considering buying an A4, simply because of AWD, Turbo (with good gas mileage) A RARITY!, and a little lux. At my age, Im out of the so-called Tuner scene, though I still appreciate those car they just arent for me anymore. Ive owned both, Hondas and Infiniti (Nissan). The G35 would definately show up the A4 in style and power, but its not a practical car for everyday use (decent gas mileage for a 3.5 V6, RWD). Not ALL Jap cars are bland, so I think youre being a little subjective on that comment. I will agree that as good and reliable as Hondas are, when it comes to interior they suck!

For my present needs, Ive learned that I should just have 1 car with AWD and enough torque to get me through the day. Ive had both reliable and unreliable Jap cars. When it comes to Timing Belts, they all need changed on every single overhead cam'd car at about 100k miles, so anyone that cries about that obviously doesnt understand how engines work. The fact of the matter with the suspension illnesses, and I call them illnesses because its obvious that Audi didnt "fortify" the bushings properly, but Recalls are respectable.

The problem that Im having is if people are having issues with those two so-called "problems" of Audi and they are either being repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the consumer OR a relatively reasonable fix. I mean come on 50$ for a timing belt is cheaper than a 98 Honda Civic SOHC D16 VTEC timing belt. Once youve upgraded the tensioners, then the belts are cheapo. 250 bucks for a timing kit is nothing compared to a overrevved motor.

With all that being said, these seem to be the redundantly mentioned problems..... Wheres all the other issues?? I would be more than happy to pay for timing belts every 100k. I havent found many people with turbo issues, fuel delivery issues, etc. I would venture to say through my experience with the two afformentioned problems that they are way more costly and troublesome.

Some of you guys are scaring me!! Seeing over 3,000 $ in repairs!!!! Dealer or not, thats rediculous. What are people doing to these cars!?!?!

On a side note, a 99 A4 1.8tq has 2 Recalls 2!!!!!!!!!!! Thats less than most BMWs! What's with all this down-talking of Audi? Am I missing the boat?!

As far as the most reliable AWD Car with Quality parts I'd go with a Subaru , but then you are sacraficing Luxury , If you want a all year car AUDI SUBARU AND VOLVO are your best bet . Other cars Like the Lancer Evolution are a nice choice but these ones have some history behind them to back up their current drivetrains,as some other AWD's donot.. For some reason I'm obsessed with Mazda's as well ..

My concern about the audi is, i was told they have lots of trouble, i have been browsing around, and all the trouble i see from audi is from the 2002 a4, and wanted to know if the 99-01 have the same problem, or are they a little more reliable. I do know audi is made by VW, so im prety sure they are "Picky" which isnt a problem, since all my work is done by a privade machanic, who doesnt charge me much.

Hi all
I'm looking very hard at a 2002 1.8TQM which is not common over here. Can anyone advice what's is the trouble qwith 2002 Audi as mentioned above? Thanks
