Default acceleration issue

i've been noticing that lately my 1.8 has been reving high before it kicks in and accelerates. itsa manual and im not holding in the clutch.
after i shift, say into second, and release the clutch and give it gas it will rev up and then go back down and slowly start to accelerate.

anybody got any ideas as to whats going on?
thanks
