don't call your insurance company...if it's not your fault, you don't have to bring them into it...most insurance companies suck and will raise your rates for any reason they can find, it's better to leave them out of this. call the girl's insurance company and explain the situation. it would be a good idea to go to a couple body shops first (expensive ones, since her insurance paying for it) and get quotes for the repair...it's not a lot of damage really, just the taillight and bumper cover...also ask the body shops how much it would be to replace the bumper cover vs. trying to repair/repaint it...
Thats what anothre friend said..to get her policy # and call her insurance co....am I allowed to do that? How do I get it fixed if they dont deal with my company?

i've been involved in three accidents that were all the other driver's fault and i didn't contact my insurance company for any of them. there's a reason that insurance companies ask for ALL accidents, not just 'at fault' accidents, when you apply for a new policy....i would just deal with her insurance directly...

Bummer to hear about your accident man. Well I'm an Insurance Agent, so I deal with this all the time.
Some good words of advice...

-First off HOLD ONTO THE NOTE. That is the one solid piece of proof which shows she hit your car.
-Next get her addy (if its not on the note)
-Then go get an estimate on how much it will be to fix the car.
-Make sure to keep her informed on this.
-I'm not sure on the logic behind why Panda says not to go outside of insurance? Give her the option... you could just be like, I'M GOING THRU HER INSURANCE, but you've gotta realize that she was decent enough to leave a note. You know she didn't mean to do it, and if she would rather pay out of pocket than file a claim which will screw her for the next 3 years, I say more power to her. My ex had a similar situation, and she cut a check to the guys car she hit. Reason being... her deductible was more than the damage amount. So just keep the person informed about the options. Accidents suck, but the more cooperative you guys are to one another the better it will turn out. WHEW. Hope that helped!
Drop me an email if you want any specific info. It's what I do for a livin! matthew.johnson@countryfinancial.com
good luck!

Ahhh and btw no flaming on me for why insurance rates are the way they are and all that. I have nothing to do with rate increases... I hate them. Hahah... ok as for rate increases... if you have only one NOT-AT-FAULT accident... your current carrier won't do anything. Now the insurance companies logic behind raising your rates if you get keep getting in NOT-AT-FAULT accidents is just that... sure it might be coincidence, but odds are you do something to provoke multiple not at faults. Fun huh?

Panda you're dead awn. YOU ARE IN CONTROL of the situation. Go to your shop and get a quote on the cost. If she has a prob w/ that, go thru her insurance. If she wants to go thru her ins., done. It should be super simple. Lets just hope she's got a good ins. co. that will pay the claim! (now that i freaked ya out haha)

This happeneds all the time, so at least your car is still driveable while ya get this figured out.
