Default advice on buying a4

hello eveyone my name is chris im new to this forums and was looking for a little advice. I looked at a 96 a4 that has the auto tranny, all wheel drive and the 2.8 motor with 146k. My concern was that the car made a clunking noise(not every time) when i got on the gas,but didnt notice it when i let off the gas or when i was going around corners. While reading this forum i saw the problems with the motor mounts and it sounds like that could be the problem. i was wondering if anyone had any other advice with this problem or think i should look for different car. thanks to anyone in advance. by the way u guys have some really nice cars on here and i dont think now i'll be able to keep my audi stock. O and onepoint8tee got me on that cheap audi for sale.

man thats a lots of miles on that car... your best bet is to maybe get something under 100k....it might be more liable for you.

if you want reliability, stick with the 12v 2.8 (96-97)....wait to find one with lower mileage (80-100k miles shouldn't be too hard to find)...spend 7k-7500 and save some $ for repairs/maintenance
