Airbag light - any DIY fix?
I did some searching but didn't come across a definitive answer for this (and there may not be one or I may have missed it) so I decided to post and ask at the risk of being crucified (flame suit is on)
When I got my car last week (99 A4 2.8 Quattro if it matters for this), the seller said that he had a problem with the driver's seat airbag connector. On occasion, if the seat was moved too far back, it would somewhat loosen the plug and trigger the dash airbag warning light. In my early morning stupidity today, I moved the seat too far when I dropped my phone and was looking for it, and triggered the light.
I have seen in the posts that came up in search that the Vag Com can reset this light in some instances, and that members are using a zip-tie to help secure the connection. I will zip-tie the connector for sure to prevent this in the future, but I'm wondering if anyone has a way to shut off the warning light a) when you don't yet have a Vag Com (where's a good place to get one BTW, and for how much?), and b) without going to the dealership and being charged a ******** to have them reset it. Is there a way to reset the warning light, or am I forced to endure dealership hell?

disconnecting battery for a while could fix the problem but not sure. it is better to find someone has vag-com around you. because sometimes you need to do couple of try to make the airbag cable work right.

Excellent - thanks guys. I have bookmarked the vag-com list and will check it over for someone local (as well as check the cost on it). I'll try the battery also - have to change the oil today so I might as well unhook while I'm doing that and see if it helps. Much appreciated

a regular obdII scanner can clear the code for you as well.
