My wifes '98 A4 2.8 has an airbag light on. Drivers side seat igniter resistance too high. No big deal, but when you start the car it chimes for probably 2 or 3 minutes (pretty annoying for her) AND if you turn on the lights after you start it, it makes the solid chime sound (lights left on warning) for probably 1 minute (very annoying for her)and then the regular chime sound for 2 or 3 again. After that it stops and everythings fine aside from the light. Now the guy I bought it from said he just had the instrument cluster replaced (outside the dealership). So Im thinking the sound and the light may not be related. Like I may just need the cluster coded properly.

My question is does anybody with an Airbag light on hear this chime? Or has anybody with cluster problems experienced these sounds before? I just want to get as much info as possible before going to the stealership...

 

Id say the two are probably not related. The airbag light should only cause a noise at startup for a few seconds at most. The sound you describe sounds like a bad latch causing the cluster to think that a door is intermitantly open.
For the code just clear it. You can alsotry putting some sort of electronic terminal cleaner on the connection under the drivers seat. They have sporadic high resiatance measurements do to a bad connection in the connector. The real fix is just to hardwire the connector out of the wiring.
