alternator amperage on 01 a4 2.8q
my alternator jsut went on my 2001 a4 2.8 quattro manual. i was wondering how many amps the thing is without taking it out. the car is in a shop like 45 min from ma house. not sure if they'll let me fix ma car in their paking lot. need help righ away please.
yup 120 on my 2000 2.8Q. you can still drive the car pretty far without the alternator. I drove mine over a 100 miles. You just have to turn off all the electrical stuff and watch the voltage.
So just drive it home and work on it. It is a pain in the but to change though.

First you gotta put the lock carrier in the service position. You should disconnect the battery for safety. I dont because I dont have my radio code. Then basically all I did was remove stuff until I could get the alt out. It was a serious pain in the butt. If I had to do it again I would drain the radiator and pull the lock carrier completely off. Then take the 2 bolts off and remove the wires. If I am using the wrong term "lock carrier" someone please correct me or advise me on audiforums term for this.
