Am I the only one thinking that these cars have short gears?
How the heck do you guys get these things moving? I mean first gear takes me to like 30mph.. I'm afraid of minivans and camrys =P
Also, is it normal for second gear to engage "rougher" than the others?

not if your shifting properly? no intentiosn on being mean. but i never found the gears to really seem short, but thats soley based upon what i have driven. if your getting to 30mp in first your guna have high rpms when going to second so that could be it. rpm match.

In all seriousness, these cars have (for their displacement) alot of torque. Even stock (unless you're driving a 12v 2.8) you can get off the line relatively quickly.
No, I really don't take offense.. Being my first car, I might not know how to drive it properly.. I wonder if what sounds like a bad throwout bearing may be contributing to this..

First and second gear seem a little short to me but not that bad. I think my 2nd tops out somewhere around 50-55. Once you get into third it seems to get longer. Second shouldn't engage rougher then any of the other gears. If your not used to the car then it is probably your driving. Wait and see what happens when you get used to it more.

Are you shifting at redline? If so you're doing it wrong. You need to find the best RPM's to shift at for maximized acceleration. Also keep in mind that the k03 turbo is the size of an aborted fetus so it peaks at ~ 3.8k RPM, and is utterly useless past 50mph.

Roughly a week since I started driving this car and I crave K04! =D
haha well the tach always climbs faster than the speedo. it would be pretty nice if it were the opposite though lol. haha i think i've heard that from just about evry 1.8t owner. meaning the faster part
