haha well the tach always climbs faster than the speedo. it would be pretty nice if it were the opposite though lol. haha i think i've heard that from just about evry 1.8t owner. meaning the faster part

are you chipped or not? Stock the rpm's go up and you think your speed should go up faster but it doesn't. I noticed after I got chipped the gears got a little longer.
Im 100% stock.. Just got the car.. Being 16 and all I can't afford all that much with school and only working part-time. Im taking the approach of maintenence before mods.. Currently saving for a timing belt job and getting the clutch/throwout bearing checked out..

first is the only gear that seems short to me....

do you have a B5 1.8T Quattro? (B5/6/7?)

oh!...and, as far as a stock 1.8 goes... they are not in any way remotely quick, so, if you were under the impression that your car was supposed to be a rocket...it's not.... (save your pennies and go for a chip, it's worth it)

it should not be rough into any of the gears, try rev matching, that should smooth out the shifts alot if you aren't...

second gear seems to be the shortest for me. but 3rd gear is pretty long and definitely when i start pulling in races.

as for your car, you need to buck up and throw down 500 on a chip and you wont be slow anymore. you wont beat evos or anything but you wont have to be scared of camry's and minivans

Yeah the first 2 gears are quite short.. But I can see why when you look at the weight of these cars.. As for the chip, I should be chipped by spring =P

chip increases the fun factor so much. You'll kick your self in the spring for waiting, but from your previous posts i'm guessing the price is an issue. I'm sure you know to do the dv at the same time as the chip.

What altitude are you at? I know with mine I redline 2nd up at 7,000 ft at 53-55. When I go to sea level I redline 2nd at 60-63. My gears are tall but I believe the 2.8 tranny's are geared differently.
