Default Another Noob!

Hey guys, my name is Ryan and I just sold my 97 turbo eclipse last week. Over this thanksgiving week I have decided that my next project will be a 2001 Audi A4 1.8t. I've started to look through craigslist and found one that I like, the guy wants $8000. It's 2001, like I stated before, 5 speed, with 86000. The only modification he has are black 18" Konig wheels. The catch is it has a reconstructed title, heres the link to it. http://eugene.craigslist.org/car/450295734.html .I've been lurking around here for this past week but don't worry guys, I know plenty about turbocharged cars. I've put together a little mod list that goes a little something like this, in order: Vdo boost guage, GIAC chip, HKS SSQV Bov (I have heard that the 2001 ecu's are adaptative and will only run rich on a vented Bov for a day, right or wrong?), homemade intake (maybe I'll start working on it now), Ebay FMIC kit, and then eventually exhaust, but thats not that important, maybe I'm wrong. I think thats about it, another other suggestions? Like I said I just sold my first car, my eclipse, I am still only 16 and I'm still learning but I'm trying to be as knowledgeable about these cars before I start making modifications. If anyone wants to see a picture of my eclipse just ask, I have tons. I can recall someother person on here with a black audi that owns a turbo eclipse I just cant remember their name. I think thats all. Oh yea I emailed the guy about the reconstructed title but hasn't emailed me back so I don't know what it's specifically reconstructed for.
Ryan

if you want to go big power i woild recomend going pre 99.5, those take best to big turbo mods. the 99.5 look best imo bigger rims nicer interior more factory power. btw if you go with audi u have to go quattro.

as for around 7. 8 is pretty good but i wouldnt' pay that much. make sure he has timing belt done. as for ur mod list i would add HIDs, CC mod, dual rear fogs if he hasn't done that yet, and a turbo upgrade. an elim turbo should do justice with those mods. most people don't play with BOV. a DV works better on these cars. as for the intake, make sure u have the filter going downwards and away from the turbo. i guess that's all i can think of for now

Can't argue that. Also, forget the BOV - get the upgraded DV and play it right. And the exhaust may well gain you some useable power, especially if you go turbo-back and get the larger aftermarket downpipe. Other than that, you've got the right plan for your upcoming Audi.

I rather have a VVT car with the engine controlled by a wbo2 (AMB) and supported by a map sensor than a nbo2 sensor controlled car with only a maf (AEB). The heads are easily swapped since that is the biggest differnce besides the 058 vs 06A blocks.

And yes, there are other differences.

To clear some things up apr_a4 I plan on going with the quattro and I might be wrong but doesnt the 1996-2000 have the 150 stock hp aposed to the 2001 170 stock hp? Lazer Viking this car is all stock those are the plans I have. And CincyTT I have no idea what you just said, man, I know **** about these engines.

The stock hp rating doesnt really matter, with both of them chipped and other equal mods, they will be about even. Pic a model year you like and a price you can afford and go from there. Just skip the 2000's with a ATW engines. You want either the benifits of the 97-99.5 AEB cars or the 01+ AMB engines.
