The stock hp rating doesnt really matter, with both of them chipped and other equal mods, they will be about even. Pic a model year you like and a price you can afford and go from there. Just skip the 2000's with a ATW engines. You want either the benifits of the 97-99.5 AEB cars or the 01+ AMB engines.

1997-1999 A4: AEB
2000 A4: ATW
2001 A4: AWM
2002 A4: AMB

Well that surely helps, man im so anxious, I just wanna own an audi. I took a ride in my friends A4 1.8Tq he just got the GIAC chip and it pulls pretty hard. Not quite as hard as my ol eclipse but I will get used to the luxury and manuverability of these things.
