I purchased the car when it had nearly 70k miles on it and just haven't had the money to get the timing belt service done. It runs great still at almost 90k and I know that if it hasn't been done by now, it needs to be. But my question is, is there a way to see if the previous owner had the timing belt service done and I can save myself $800? Thanks for the help in advance.

You could look for the service log , it should be with the owner's manual and everything.

Or if you know the person's phone # still you could call them and politely ask them if it was done.

or you could do it yourself for about $200, and not have to have it on your mind.

look for tampering of the bolts on the cover then see if the belt has the writing on it ( if in doubt change it )

Its almost impossible to tell if a belt is new or used unless you look at a service log. i would suggest getting it changed for assurance anyway. If that belt snaps, you could mash your valves into your pistons and potenticlly destroy your entire engine. its worth the money fro the accurance, and then you are sure when it needs to be replaced again.

Theres also no sign the failure will occur. One day your car will be running great and the next it wont run at all.
