Default APR or GIAC chip reprograming

Ok,
I have heard of this being done before but I am wondering if I bought an ECU that is chipped by APR or GIAC but it was for a 5 speed, is it possible to get it re-programed for a trip-tronic? If so how would I go about that and how much is it? Or would I be better just sending in mine and getting it programed. Thanks.

Josh

P.S. I tried searching and couldn't really find anything. So if it's there, sorry about that and just give me a link.

Yes, you just need to use a vag-com. If you have a vag, or know somebody with one, it'd be free.

Ok, I found this on Ebay... Would this work in my car if I use the original ECU (The one out of my car since this one just plugs into it?) I am really looking at getting this!

Yeah I have been looking around on here and there is nothing for my car that is still available. If you know of anything let me know.

Josh

P.S. There is no way for me to install that chip myself?

#1 you would still have to get it installed in your ECU - #2 it in canada - not sure if canadian cars are different than ours. You can contact APR and ask them if the chip itself is coded differently (manual vs auto) but they will most likely say it is since they want you to buy it from them. I found a write-up on audiworld that tells you have to recode the ECU for manual vs auto a while ago, but since this doesn't involve an ECU I don't know what you would need.

I jsut called APR and there is no difference between the canadian and the us version of their chips.
