Ashtray install A4 B6
I had pulled the complete ashtray out of by A4 - B6 and now having a hel of a time trying to install it. Do i have to pull out the whole radio center consol out now to install the ash tray ?

Have you had any luck getting your ashtray back in? I've got a B6 as well - did the same thing. Everything was working great on it - ashtray, cup holders, blah blah. Until my boyfriend put change on top of the ashtray. We took it apart but can't get the bloody thing back together. Any luck?
Why are you replacing the ashtray anyways? Did your door latch break? Mine did and itsjust sitting open [sm=smiley13.gif]
Audi hasbeen "trying" to replace it...however they say they keep ordering the wrong ashtray (twice now...). However, I would guess you don't have to pull the stereo because it only took them about 20 minutes to tell me they tried to put in the wrong part, and putthe broken one back in.
I do know the rear ash tray just pulls out and snaps back in. Just open the lid and pull up on it. I'd try opening the new ashtray door and snapping it into place while its still open. The rear one feels like its going to break when you put it back in...but also be careful not to smoosh any wires in the open compartment when putting it back...that would also make the installation difficult[sm=smiley2.gif]

Well I finally got this resolved. When I went to Audi I asked them to pull out the radio for me. There are 4 slots in the radio that I tried to get out that allow you to pull the radio out, then the lower AC/heater contoler, then I could have placed the lower ash tray part in. Seemed like slightly tedious but its done. Ask the dealership to slightly pull out the radio for you next time your in for a check up or else just drop by to the service area and ask them to do it ... if the ask you to pay ... well then tell them to ...
yeah heard it was a real pain.. i think it can be done without removing the radio but only by a few... radio removal is the easiest way..you can get radio keys on ebay for a few bucks or make them out of a old credit card
