How do i take out the front ashtray of my audi a4 2002 3.0L V6. Is there any way to do it without having to remove the radio head and the ac unit.

I've got a 2002 A4 3.0 manual transmission, and on that car I believe I did have to remove the ac unit and the radio to remove the ashtray. The ashtray is held down by two hex head bolts. To get at these bolts I used my fingers to pull up on and unclip the wood trim piece around the gear shifter.

I tried that and it sounded like it was going to break i don't want to pull it all the way up and snap it off. Did you use a screwdriver or anything.

I did not use any tools, and would not recommend using any. Open up the ashtray cover and grab and lift the trim piece from the ashtray end. The trim piece is held on by 4 or so metal clips. If you haven't removed the trim piece before, those clips are probably still holding it down relatively tight.

i learned that most of the panels in our cars require a good amount of force while removing. If it sounds like its breaking u are probably doing it the right way.
