i have a 1997 a4 1.8t quattro no reverse
codes 293 & 526...i' know what the codes stand for from the book that came with the code reader
i can erase the codes but then the come back up again
I've been able to erase codes and if quick enough start car and shift to reverse and it will work until the car is shifted into drive then it goes into limp mode...most of the time...sometimes it will stay good until i turn ignition off then upon restart the car goes into limp mode again...so I re scan... erase.... quickly start and shift into reverse and so on
Any help?

 

I would say the shifter selector sensor is broken, there are little magnets that fall out of there and the tranny can't figure out what gear its in.
