Audi A4 Quattro Auto/manual gearbox fault
I recently purchased the above vehicle YOM 1997 in the estate(station wagon ) version Im having trouble with the gear selection in the low range
symptoms
occasionally and especially soon after starting up when I travel then stop and go to pull away again there is a delay in 1st gear selecting the again occasionally another delay until 2nd gear selects causing 2nd gear to engage at high revs if im not careful Once into the higher range it drives perfectly.
I took it to an Auto transmission specialist who diagnosed the fault (and only fault evident )as a faulty BRAKE SWITCH.......................I replaced the brake switch adjacent to the brake pedal ,the fault was deleted from the computer and the car drove perfectly for about 20 miles, then the same fault reoccurred. I was told that erasing the fault from the memory had given the impression that the fault was rectified .........apparently the aforementioned brake switch was not the problem
Can anyone please enlighten me and give me any guidance on this fault and how it may be rectified
Its a nice car but Ive been Quoted £3000($6000us)to have the gearbox overhauled or £5000($10000) for a new gearbox.....I only paid £2000 for the car and unless I can find a much cheaper solution than this its 'going in the skip'..........everything else on the car is in good condition for a high milage car.......although ive been told that this is a troublesome gearbox being one of the earliest models, the fact that it drove perfectly for a while after the computer was reset, makes me think the fault is either engine management or external to the gearbox itself..............it still has the original gearbox

RE: Audi A4 Quattro Auto/manual gearbox fault
Before doing anything, find a garage that specializes in Audi/VW and have them check the transmission and transmission control module with their diagnostic equipment. Failing that, use the VAGcom locator to find someone who will loan you one. Run the diagnostics on the transmission and then run the output tests.
Could be something as simple as low fluid level. You don't say how many miles on the car and whether the transmission fluid has ever been checked or changed.

Multitronic problems
Hi Fellas,
I live in south america and I got a 2004 Audi A4 Avant 2.5 TDI Multitronic.
Recently I have a problem with the gerabox: it changes from D to S and flashing PRNDS indicators at any moment.
I´m from 1.000 miles from my town and Audi service told me they delay 20 days to chage the Multitronic ECU, and I nedd came back with my family urgently.
Anybody could tell me if is existing any problem if I came back to my town with this problem (specially if I could broke the gearbox).
Thanks a lot.
