audi story...
i just recently got up to college and i took my 02 a4 with 46,500 miles with me.
a couple of days ago, my car wouldn't start. luckily i was in a parking lot on campus, so i didn't get stranded somewhere sketchy. i went back to my dorm and checked audis website to find the closest audi dealer around my college. it turned out there was a place 5 miles away...sweet.
yesterday i jumpstarted my car and brought it over to the place. it was so nice to see a whole fleet of audi/porsche/vw cars being serviced...it made me feel like i was home. i dropped off my car and told them it wouldn't start and it probably needed a new battery. they told me it would take a few days before they could look at it because they were backed up. i said alright, and left.
later that same day, they called me back and said my car was ready. They said it did just need a new battery and that was all. every service instance i have had with any audi dealer has been super quick like that, with them getting back to me faster than expected. It’s nice when that happens.
so i go over today to pick up my car today and i get the paperwork with the bill and everything...i expected to just pay for the battery, which was 120 dollars or so. i look at the bill and it is for just over 200 dollars. they charged me for labor, even though my car was still under warranty. So, I was starting to get pissed pissed when i looked at the rest of the paper to see what else might be "off"; i noticed that my mileage had been written as 86,500. i was like, “what's that about?” so i went and checked my car with the guy, and it turned out they had just made a mistake and misread it...somehow.
happy to see my car had not been on a joyride or anything, I began explaining to him that because my car was still under warranty, i should not and would not be paying for labor. he called someone else into the room. this other guy comes in, looks at the papers and says, "86,000 mile car...still under warranty?" i was like, “you guys made the mistake it's 46,500.” so he looks at me, waits a minute, then makes a phone call and finds out that not only should i not be paying for labor, but the battery is free too. I didn’t know audi covered the batteries under the warranty, I was all ready to pay…sweet. I took my papers, shook their hands, grabbed my keys and left.
shortly after leaving on my ride back to campus, i was stopped at a light and all of a sudden my car starts bouncing up and down at idle. i felt like i had hydraulics or something. (those “player” wheels wouldn't have been so out of place on my car then.
so i quickly turn around and go back to tell them what’s up. I just found a technician in the shop and told him what I was experiencing. He was very helpful and said my car was trying to "find idle." he mentioned something about potentiometers being outta whack and hooked my car up to the diagnostic computer. he ran the test and saw that my car's computer was in fact off. he said this was likely something to do with the battery dying, and the car’s computer losing the proper settings. the computer was able to quickly recalibrate my car and easily fix the problem. finally, my car was fixed and ready to go.
i'm very happy to have my car back and i just thought I’d share this experience with you guys.

Im glad I read yer story thru..I was about to tell you NOT to pay it!!!
I bought my car last November..its an '01..so its older..whatever.
a month to the VERY day I bought it...the car wouldnt start. I was at my house but couldnt figure out why...
not only did Roadside come out to my house and jump start me..
the guy followed me all the way out to the dealership (a good 10 or 15 minute drive).
Audi scored points there.
Then...service took my car in front of about 3 porsche's that were sitting there just because I was actually going to stay with my car.
They changed the battery..I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes.
With all the horror stories Ive heard from peopel abou their cars..I knew Audi had totally won me over at that very moment!!

All I have to say is becareful once you go over 50K...I'm at 52K miles...and the dealership has treated me somewhat "unkindly" to be politically correct...
Audi of America, is awesome though...They try their best to take care of you...

i am purchasing the 2 year extended warranty, so i will be under warranty until 70k and 2 more years past november (when my original warranty runs out.) then, before the 2 year extended warranty period is up, i will scrap up another 700 dollars to get the last leg of the extended warranty, the third year of warranty, good until 100k miles.
then when that all runs out, i'll be searching for an s4...heh.

When they changed the battery, they didn't spend the two minutes to do a throttle body adjustment, which they should have done. You can do it, or the car will do it over the next few hundred miles. To do a TBA, turn the key to on and leave it there for 5 minutes and then shut off the car. The bouncing should be gone.
