Default Auto Level Headlight Control Problem After Suspension Install

OKay so I have an 04 S4 and just finished installing sport springs and shocks. When I tooke the car for a test drive the headlight level indicator came up (the little yellow light with arrows ontop and bottom). I noticed the headlights would dip and them come up, but are lower then they should be. I was careful not to mess with the headlight sensors while changing the suspension. Is is possible that they need to be recalibrated? Or did I just bust one of the sensors? I should note that the springs lowered the car 1.2" at each corner.

Cheers

when i did my suspension job i went down 2" at the corners and had no problems with the auto level, i wish i knew how to calibrate it but i don't, i think they need to be reset from your old height to the lower height.

You are going to have to VAG your ride and restore your factory default settings in the Xenon Range Module..which is number 55. Clear the codes first, the set back to the factory default setting. Also, from there, you can also readjust your headlights to compensate for the new ride height. The lower the number setting, the higher up the lights aim BUT you must clear the errors first.

if you don't know what a VAG is or anything that I'm mentioning, then you'll have to search the forums for VAG or VAG-COM and go from there.

Just out of curiosity how can I tell that this is a problem with adjustment and not with a broken sensor? It is possible when I removed the front strut that the level sensor was pulled down a little bit.

Possibly, but it better to just reset things, clear the codes, then go from there.
