Avant License Plate Light
Chilton shows two screws for each light; remove them and the light pops downward.
I have one screw per light and pried it to the point that I thought I'd ask, is there anything else I'm supposed to do?
TIA

So far that thing hasn't been any help.
Only one screw. The assembly looks like this:

The hatch release is to theright of this one, and the passenger side one is mirrored. I tried pulling the passenger side one to see if the one was just jammed in there, but same thing.
'01 thing? Avant thing?

must be an avant thing... how much can you move it after you take the screw out ?
if you can, pull down on the side where the screw was and then pull towards edge of the car
the has to be a clip or something holding it in

I know this a dead thread, but because this is what came up when I googled how to remove the avant license plate lights, I figured I would share my experience, so hopefully the next person googling it will get an answer.
I have a 2001 a4 avant. My license plate lights are the same as pictured above. The housings are each individually held by a plastic lip on the inside and the visible screw on the outside. Remove the screw, and pry the outer side down. Once you have it far enough down on the outside, you should be able to see the plastic lip, and slide the whole housing towards the outside (toward the side with the screw).
Bam! it's out. Replace bulb. slide plastic lip back in, and push the outer side in and replace screw.
Hope this helps!
