Average rebuild cost

hey guys blew the tranny all to hell today and i was wondering whats the average cost of a local transmission shop to rebuild a automatic a4 tranny.

auto or manual?

itll be cheaper to get one out of a junkyard than have it rebuilt. if its an auto then they cant even know what needs to be fixed w/o opening up the transmittion.

i just got my manual tranny replaced with a used one and it cost about 4gs. to rebuild it was going to cost about the same amount. it also matters whether or not you have quattro, and where you're from. i'm in the bay area, california, so its probably more here then anywhere else.
