Default HIGH Miles... and cost of a Average rebuild..

Hey, My Question is when does High miles start to become a problem on a Audi A6 2.7T. Hell I seen 1 place offer 5years / 100,000 mile warranty for $850.00 and the car had 124k on it. Didn't really read what it covered but figured it covers the engine if it blows. Well since I'm on the engine topic whats around about price for a engine rebuild on the Audi a6 or is it better just to buy one.

Read the fine print. Many aftermarket warranties (and factory ones for that matter) do not cover parts that wear out. They only cover parts that break due to defects. It is up to you to prove it did not wear out. This might be hard with a high mileage car.

Up to you, just read the contract and get recommendations on the different companies. You will not get what you do not pay for. (I.E. You might NOT get what you DO pay for!)

As long as you run synthetic oil and change it before 7,000 miles, it won't blow up for hundreds of thousands of miles down the road. The turbos however will, its just a matter of time before they go, they are ticking time bombs, especially if you run a chip. I have never seen a 2.7T engine with 200,000 miles on it with original turbos on it, you'll need to upgrade to KO4's down the road, which won't be a cheap repair.

I would say it depends what the warrenty covers.

If it also covers things like starter motor, alternator, and other electrical type components, those are still more likely to go bad before the engine and transmission.

Just short of 163k miles and have replaced the clutch, flywheel, alternator, and front axle boots. Still original battery, suspension, ...and turbos. Have all my dashboard pixels. Chipped at 80k. I did disable the headlight washers about 100k miles ago because they would not stop leaking. Otherwise it is a great car. Mobil1 every 8-9k miles. Lots of highway driving.

I figure a K04 kit with fuel injectors, piggies, and a new exhaust will set me back about $4-5k plus another $1k+ for installation. Just not sure what else should be changed at the same time. When the time comes, I will make the repair or replace decision but in the meantime, I'm shooting for 250k miles.
