Every how often does the tranny oil need to be changed?

Also, is it normal that shifting into 1st gear is difficult when the car is not completely warm?

 

Do you mean downshifting in motion from 2 to 1? Or do you mean from a stop or slight roll, putting it in first? Choice 2 is something I have noticed on my b5.

 

Some people recommend 60k miles for the transmission oil change. Yes it's normal for it to be hard to downshift into 1st. You really don't need to be in first very often anyway unless you are starting from a standstill or creaping along very slow. All the manuals I've had were tough to downshift into 1st.

 

Not talking about downshifting....just shifting into first from neutral/stop.

 

Then yeah I know what you mean, I have that happen to me too, its nothing harmful.

 

That happens to me too... maybe all our trannys are failing? My second gear won't synchronize sometimes

 

you should have trouble shifting down in to first, it does this as a safety function once you reach a speed slow enough to shift in to first it will let you.

 

I think it's normal that before everything is warmed up shifting especially from 1st to 2nd is a rough one!!

I always seem to have to milk it but hey it takes no time to warm up so who cares.

This really isnt a safety function just the syncros matching the different speeds on the gears

But it kinda works out like a safety feature
