Best Launch strategy - what do you think?
OK,
I have had this car for a few months, 97 1.8T quattro chipped.
As far as I know, stock clutch setup.
Am I better off just getting in gear and stomping on it (it revs up quite quickly), or what is a good launch rpm?
I have been experimenting a bit, did one or two at around 4k, but not too sure if its worth it.
Will the stock clutch hold up? Or should I just get rolling and stomp it?
Obviously, this is the result of the awesome video TimRitt put out there laying a patch with all 4 wheels.
I know I cant quite do that, but was just wondering what others found to be a good launch point with these a4's.
Maybe there's a sweet spot around 5-6k that I haven't found yet? let me know!

RE: Best Launch strategy - what do you think?
I'm on a stock clutch as well, not chipped though. 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro.
I've also experimented with launching. I'd read before that the best lauch without killing your clutch is actually around 3k. I still can't consistently get a good lauch by dumping the clutch at 3k (although it does chirp the tires ), but when I hit it right, it is always around 3k. My best lauches are when I rev it to around 2k, not using WOT, then open up the throttle all the way and catch it right at 3k. My more consistent lauch, although a little slower, it rev to 3k, and slip for a moment as I move to WOT. It seems like if I go any higher, it tends to polish the clutch and slip through 1st gear.

i have only launched my car once, and the i rev it to about 3k, and in the course of about a 1/4 second, I move to wot while slipping the clutch and no lag at all. Works for me....but i am not stock.

with my fronttrak, i hold er at 2600, slip the clutch, and wait for first gear to smoke out, then nail 2nd and im gone.
( but im not that fast yet )
try slipping the clutch, not dumping it.

ORIGINAL: Jeff
rev to 7200 rpms and let that biotch out. or go from 4500 and let it slip out, build boost, and then take off like a bat out of hell

Really, will this kill my clutch, or is the stock clutch pretty resiliant.
Thanks!
