Best option for fixing P1545 problem
I got an '99 A4 V6 last week and it has no power, shows check engine with p1545. I researched a lot into this and it seems the best way to fix it is take it to a dealer or get Vag-com. I don't mess with my car much is it better to get the cable and software? Also i noticed some vag-com cables on ebay, but it states they only work on certain bussystems, not on VPW, PWM or CAN-bus is that what my car has or do those cables work as well? Thank you for any replies, trying to get my car back on the road as cheap as possible.

Amazon.com: OBD2 OBD II Diagnostic USB Cable For KKL409.1 VAG-COM 409: Camera & Photo
I just ordered this one and it worked great after I was able to download the right drivers. Then got to Ross-Tech: Home and download the free VCDS Lite program. You can do quite a bit with it. You will have to pay 100 bucks to activate it fully, which you will need to do to do a TBA (throttle body adaption/ alignment). A quick fix that may work and is worth a shot is to simply disconnect your battery for about 15 minutes, then reconnect and put the key in the on position for a few minutes. the TB may realign itself. But, make sure you have your radio code, or you will be without tunes until you get it.

Thank you for the quick reply, I will end up buying the cable. One quesiton though, i tried the battery disconnecting like you stated, but after leaving both the neg and pos battery cables off and away from the battery, i came back 2 hours later, plugged it in and it was like the battery was never disconnected. The radio still works and is on the same station i left it on, the chk engine light is on... is there some kind of back up on these cars?

That's interesting... I've never heard of that happening before. No matter what, if I disconnect my battery, the radio goes into safe mode...
One thing you might try is disconnecting both cables, then touching them together. This would allow any trapped power to dissipate.

So i went back and unplugged the battery, touched the two cables, no sparks, inside no power in the car at all, left both cables unhooked for 80 min, hooked them back up and same thing, radio still on same station no security code, check engine on etc. This is the strangest thing. Anyone have any input as to why its happening ?
