Default RE: Big Brakes

how will the brakes be the same? porsche uses calipers proportioned for a porsche, not an audi which is a completely different car and it doesnt take a genius to see the key differences in the two

They only use the calipers, nothing else. The boxster rotors are 5x120 bolt pattern and A4's have a 5x112. So see where we are going here? Your just getting larger rotors (like the A8's) and better clamping force/distrabution with 4 piston calipers.

oh and the calipers are off a boxer! what a POS... the only mass produced porsche designed for a wanna be porsche driver who cant afford a carrera or caymen

Not sure how the car has anything to do with the brakes, but okay. And FYI, the calipers are made by Brembo (just like evo's, sti's, 350z/g35's) with just porsche on them instead or brembo

my stage 1+ will out run, outhandle and outbrake a POS boxer with my current mods, not to mention a boxer doesnt like being over 110 mph (at least the convertible)

Im highly doubting your16/high 15sec car will out run a Boxter and same goes for A8 brakes w/ single piston on a much heavier car.

now dont u think the FAMOUS porsche spends time on R&D for theirbraking biasand considers all these things? i think they do

Again, not relevant.

stoptech calipers are proportioned for each vehicle using different size pistons

All your doing is incresing the front brake bias when you up the brakes, but i dont think your grasping that

and they are certainly not the same price? if your link has them for $1100 then its a huge difference! however ive seen people get stoptech kits under $2k by calling around...

Again, dont know where your going with this. I didnt see fit for him to spend $2k on a street car and your making it sound like i think he should

get whatever braking kit is right for what u use it for and what your budget is! if its looks, get the porsche for $1100, thats a great deal (if it includes rotors, pads, lines and carriers)

if u are serious about braking, at least get stoptech but the OEM upgrades are great too if u arent looking to spend that kinda $... i currently have the ECS 3.0 with crossdrilled/slotted rotors but in hindsight i wished i had spent the extra $ and got the stoptech.... live and learn!

its hard to justify but just remember it is your brakes!

^ that all above is all you should of ever posted, that is finally some good information/advise

well im sure he is glad YOU didnt see fit for him to spend $2k on brakes... are u his daddy or something?

and the reason porsche brakes are different is piston sizing
porsche designed their brakes for their car... not an audi a4

im done arguing... no one cares anyway..all you proved is u are douch

The pistons are smaller because there are 4 of them, not one massive one. This leads to even pressure over the entire pad instead of just on side and in the middle. Calipers are calipers, they dont know/care what car they are on.

Why spend $2k for a street car? Unless your running 500+whp, its just overkill. And no, im not his daddy, and im not even the one that posted the link for the 3rd time.

so you posting nonsense makes me a douche? Whatever helps you sleep better at night

i agree you dont need 2k worth of brakes on a realitivly stock car. you get a bbk if you are tracking the car and your having problems with over heating. the a8 route is a good one imo for a daily driver.

2 peice rotors make a HUGE difference also. My wilwoods are cool to the touch in mins after a hard drive. I dare someone to touch their 1 peice rotors after 4-5mins of cool down after a hard drive. Come on, I DARE YA (disclaimer, i take no responsibilty for your ignorace and first/second degree burns)

Oh jesus...i post a thread and people start cutting throats...maybe i should start taking bets and we call this audiarena instead of forums.

But all good info. I like that boxster setup, probably more then enough for what i need. Im also pretty sure that if the s4 and the a8 are mass produced, along with Brembo brakes that they might be ok for my mass produced a4 haha.

i would just do the a8 conversion if your just going to use the car on the street purems.com has the kit for the front for 289.00 and i think we (audiforums.com members) get a little bit of a discount since there are a site sponsor and the other thing i would do there is a company that i don't rember that sells a brake stiffing kit for like 30 dollars and lastly upgrade the brake lines and i think you'll be good to go (or stop )

i love how the stoptech, alcorn, and other big brake kits look but im not putting 3-400 horsepower to the wheels and i can't see spending 2K+ on some cool looking brakes but that is just me

gosh damn... i never told him to go stoptech.. you guys make up **** faster than i can say it!

i just listed it as an option if he is thinking abouta ECS porsche kit... i think for a few hundred extra $ i would get the stoptech over the ECS kit.... but thats just me........

i cant even justify $2 on brakes.right now anyway

i do think stoptech is a great buy for the $ since its designed for our cars

and there are different piston sizes and valving in the caliper... per stoptech

i did the ECS 3.0 upgrade to 312mm front rotors... i think its a good value for the $ as well... i just wanted bigger looking brakes... i dont think they perform noticebly better though.. less fade for sure...

im glad u found the right option for u! thats what this place is supposed to be about.. sharing info and personal experience to HELP each other not attempt to tear people down
