no lights before
check engine light during the roll to a stoppart
just put gas in the car an hour before

if
sure it was gas?
haha, luckily the diesel nozzles don't fit in the filler tubes for gas cars...

It sounds like an electrical issue to me...if you have the $$ I would honestly take it down to the closest stealership and get a handle on the situation....

sorry to hear about this man...good luck!

keep us updated!

Either seized engine, bad ECU or failed ignition switch. Hopefully the latter.

first: want to say thanks for everyone's input.
will have it towed againtomorrow AM (after i get a parking ticket tonight--insult to injury)
i don't know-like the car but at this many miles there are too many problems
bought the car with 36K on the odemeter in what appeared to be good condition.
did all the right maintance and on top of it replaced a lot of parts already
i've already replaced front end parts
rear axle bearings
senser units
abs thing is freaking out
last monthhad a good scare when the oil pump went south. (read $$$)
now this.

yes hopefully it is one of the latter but i think its a siezed engine.
as i said i like the car and i was even thinking of looking at a new A4.
at this point i'm not sure.

thanks again and will let you know what happens.

Easy test - remove the plugs and get a breaker bar on the crank bolt. If you can turn it a few degrees your engine isn't siezed. Take off your itming belt cover and you'll see the belt. If it's broken you'll know...

yep that would be the thing to do.
problem is i just got back from vacation --my tools are on the sailboat and i'm freaking out about work

i did take the timing cover off this morning and the belt is still on. wondering if the surge i felt may have been the belt slipping??
i felt something similar pulling away from a stop sign at the start of vacation 2 weeks ago.
a kind of surge / and stumble.
that never happened before.

Engoine should at least crank if it was timing belt.

Engine not cranking is no power to the starter motor or seized engine.

Causes of no power to the starter are dead battery, loose battery connection, fired ECU, bad ignition switch., bad solenoid.

Siezed engine. If your oil pressure light wasnt on, then I doubt the engine is siezed.
