What does the boost gauge exactly tell you? does it help any way ion performance?

Default RE: boost gauge

Well the boost gauge just tells you how much pressure your turbo is giving out. See I have a 1.8T audi so it gives out about 6-8PSI. It doesnt enhance ur performance in anyway. Just notifys you. Which is good because later on when you add a new turbo or something to do with the turbo, you can tell then if the product worked or not by telling how much ur turbo is giving out.

I got a FAZE turbo gauge on the POD!

A boost gauge will display the amount of boost (how much pressurized air is being forced into the intake manifold)

You don't gain any performance but it is very helpful in determining if you are attaining proper performance. If you have a small boost leak and don't have a gauge it would be very difficult to know it is even there.

Here is a graph where I had a small boost leak. The purple and blue lines should overlap if your car is creating and holding boost properly. As you can see the purple line dips and that is the reading I see on my boost gauge as well.

I spoke to APR and they said I had a leak and I didn't hit and hold the 18psi they said I should be.

I was lucky to have found an unclamped ring around the hose to the k04 wastegate nipple. Once that was clamped down the boost gauge was hitting and holding the boost as specified by APR and it shows on this graph

Without a boost gauge to visually compare what boost I was making to what APR says I should be making I would never have known there was a leak as the car ran fine and pulled hard but it wasn't making optimum power.

Once you install a boost gauge and familiarize yourself with the readings you should see compared to the RPM range you are operating in you will quickly detect if something is wrong with your car just by interpreting the readings on the dials.

And here is a shameless plug for the boost gauge pod I designed... check it out at www.podi.ca

I am in the process of modelling one for the B5 chassis.
