Very true - if what I mentioned doesn't work, the only thing left to do on your own is to cut off the bolt head and try to drill/tap to finish the repair. That's NOT a job I'd want to try in there.

Upstate, you're suggesting he grind the headoff a 17mm bolt? Then drill the bolt out "on center" and re-tap the threads?

Wow! Thanks for all of the responses. I'm not going to be able to get to this thing till next friday/saturday, but I had used some bits that bite into the hole where the allen went into, unfortunately they just ate out some more metal. I may try grinding down a flat surface on either side of the bolt and try to get a crecent wrench on it. manufan, its the one that holds the thing that holds the pads in place.

Ok. What I understand is that the allen bolts that are under the plastic caps are stripped out? Correct?

I wouldn't suggest it, but if it had to be done, it's gonna suck. That was my main point.

Guys, guys, guys. How many guys have a welder in their garage? I have a most extensive collection of tools and still no welder, even a "crappy little one". He's trying to get the slider bolt out. If he gets a torch anywhere near it, he'll melt the rubber guide.

My suggestion: Take off the caliper with the carrier attached. Disconnect the brakeline and take the entire assembly over to your workbench where you can see WTF you're doing. The bolts that hold the carrier to the spindle are mega tight ~90 ft/lbs. If you can get those loose you can have a good chance of getting the butchered slider bolt out.

That's actually the best suggestion yet.

I have a mig, a oxy acetylene, and a arc welder (well my father in law does.) The problem is I suck at welding for the most part, but it'snot like I need a perfect weld. The problem is where the bolt is at I would have to disconnect everything. It's not the bolt on the caliper, its the one that houses the brake pads onto the rotor on the rear brakes.I was able to remove the caliper.I want to do something that I can avoid doing that.

It would be a bit easier if you were refering to the parts by their accepted names. If you messed up the 17mm hex head bolt that holds the carrier to the spindle then welding a socket on it will get it done.
