brake light on in cluster
Try man handling your ebrake a few times to be sure the switch/button for it that gets pushed when the e brake is engaged isnt stuck.
Other than that, it may be a bad level sensor in the resevoir or something else. How do your brakes feel when driving?

My brakes feel fine. Ive tried man handling the E-brake quite a few times. So my question is, would the sensor be internal?.....What if i loosened my parking brake cable a little bit some how..... or isnt there a sensor down by the e-brake handle?
There is a sensor down by the ebrake handle (way down), but losening the cable shouldnt make a difference if the sensor/switch is stuck/bad. You could try checking for fault codes I guess, but I doubt thatll turn up anything related. Its worth a shot though before you go tearing into things. Give auditech79 a PM tooand see what he thinks since he hasnt seen/replied to this thread. The BRAKE light by itself is sort of rare, but he's great help for these kinds of things.
although mine is a b6, my brake light came in a hard corner then went off a few minutes later... turned out fluid was a tad low and the g force from the corner had pushed all the fluid to the side and made the sensor come on for a minute..
There are only a couple of things that will cause just the red brake lamp to illuminate in the cluster.
1. The brake fluid level is low.
2. The e-brake lever is miss-adjusted (not common at all)
3. The brake light switch is malfunctioning
Now if you already tried topping off the fluid and it didn't fix anything, check for fault codes.
If no fault codes are present then replace the master cylinder resivior, the float in them commonly malfunction.
