Default Brake pad and rotor

Guys its time for me replace my brake pads and rotors. Although I am not sure if it is required to change the rotor even if it looks alright, the dealer suggests I do.
What do you guys think? When I rub a finger against the rotor wall, I dont feel any uneven wornness. I hate to spend $500 (rear) + $500 (front) for these replacements.
Although I would not mind replacing the pads on my own, I dont like people staring at me when I am repairing my car in the parking lot .

Also, please suggest good brand for rotor and pads. Not something expensive but that can do the job and still not drill a hole in my wallet.

Agreed on not liking people staring at you when doing things like that. I would like to say $250 isnt bad I'll be doing that as well but when I got my Audi they did new pads and rotors so I have no worries for a long long time to come... Then again I am going to a very fun road this weekend so yup maybe sooner then I would like.

um i just did my rear rotors and pads for less than 200 bux with OEM parts that are pretty good quality. i used duralast from autozone. idk where ur getting ur brakes from but i could get slotted and crossed drilled for ur prices. i would say ebay has some pretty good deals these days on drilled ones actually. i think somebody on there has F+R pads and rotors for les than 500 bux check it out. the only thing about ordering rotors online is that if they're warped, ur gonna wait a hella long time to get new ones. so i think stopping at ur local parts store is best

Thanks for the reply guys. Its a 2003 A4 1.8T with 75000 miles.
The dealer said my rear pads are 90% worn and the front are about 80%. I checked the ones on ebay and I guess they are defenitely cheaper than what dealer or other stores offer. But my question is, are they good enough?

eBay sells lots of Bad, OK and Good stuff, just do some research before you buy from eBay or any other store. and do NOT take your car to the dealer unless he’s paying for work being done. get new pads and rotors (if needed) or some places will resurface old ones for $35-40 and take it to local tire/brake shop.
even better do the job your self, it’s easy and you’ll love it, if you not diy guy i and some other ppl in here will do your brakes for 1/2 what dealer would charge you.

You can find pads and rotors at www.rockauto.com for the car with very good price. I just ordered my pads F&R from the site for $120ish and received in 3 days. I ordered Hawk for front and Akebono for the rear. Their price is cheaper than Tirerack.

Wow, they are really raping you, $1000 for brakes? ****, you could buy a stage 2 or 3 brake upgrade for that!

Check out ECS tuning, they have PAIRS of stock rotors for $59 FOR 2!!!!!!!!

Buy 4 rotors and mintex red box pads from them, for about a total of $240 or so, and find a local import shop that will put them on for you (maybe 150-200 for the install??)

Then, you wont be getting screwed.
