Default buying an after market muffler

im about to buy an aftermarket muffler and i have a few questions. what size should i get so that it will fit on stock tubing (for now) and what brand. im looking at either buy the borla muffler and then getting a tip, or maybe the magnaflow wich already has the tips on it. any help would be appreciated

1 cat...yes but you wont pass emissions you can get a test pipe to do away with that

or a midmuffler/resonator delete

2.25 iirc

I have an '01 1.8T\Is Magnaflow a good sounding exhaust on a stock 1.8? I am not looking for the loud ricer sound if that makes any sense..... or should I just keep the exhaust stock? The last time I put an exhaust on a car was my ls1 trans-am... obviously different engine and whatnot but i guess i am looking for not too loud exhaust but somthing that would be a little deeper then stock.... Sorry if i am somewhat hijacking the thread.....

The resonator doesnt restrict flow much. Id personally leave it on there or else you may hear poping or sputtering. You arent going to notice any performance gains by removing it, although it is pretty heavy.

im not looking for performance so much as sound. i just want to hear my exhaust when i drop it rather than
being so quiet... will the muffler accomplish this without sounding bad.

i think id just save up for a complete exhaust you will get a much better sound and performance...... just removing pieces isnt as good sounding..... and testpipes sound sweet as hell if you can get away with it emmissions wise
