Default Buying a B5 questions

I would love to get a 1.8Tquattro, but I have yet to find one yet in my area that I like. Would it be better to wait and get one without that option or should I just settle. I have only really found 2.8 quattros. Should I consider those? Would I be content with a 2.8 thinking about gas mileage and more tuning options that I would get from the 1.8T?

The gas mileage in both engines are similar in their stock form. And even with a chipped 1.8t its close. The 1.8t isnt gunna be as powerful as the 2.8 unless you chip it, or add a bigger turbo/other mods. Use the search and browse the forums to help make a decision and decide whats most important to you. THere is really only one tuning option for the 2.8 30v that is going to give you significant gains and thats a supercharger... The 1.8t is FAR more tuneable for le$$. I/most people are gunna suggest that you hold out for a 1.8t.

I searched the forums and assumed as much. I have an is300 that I love, but I don't want to really play around with it too much and since I am selling my other car there is plenty of room for a euro car in my garage. I am quite excited about the possibilities both show and go-wise with this car.

I was hoping for 99.5 and up because of the changes they had then, but honestly I think the A4 just has a classy look to it regardless of year. Any recommendations for a year or something to stay away from? With the problems I have in finding a 1.8T how I want it I'm uncertain with how picky I should be for year in terms of everything else.

I went through the same thing you are. I ended up get an 01 A4 1.8T Q. I also drove 270 miles to get it because I could'nt find 1 in my area for the $ I wanted. But its was a very nice ride home and got a chance to get a feel for the car.
