A/C troubleshooting
Hi folks,
I have an 01 A4 Quattro with 77K on it and have the following problem:
Background: A piece of retread smacked my hood last week, breaking my grill and ripping off a bumper (washer) cap.
Problem: I turn on my A/C and no cool air. It worked like a champ last summer with no signs of any problem.
I've checked the fuses that were labled with "climate control" in my manual and they are all fine. What next? Can anyone suggest some other things I can check/do before taking her to the dealership?
Thanks in advance,
Mickey

Yeah go to Walmart or any auto parts store and get a pressure gauge for your A/C, 10 or 15 bucks. The plug in port should be passenger side rear engine compartment. On my 03 its under the plastic guard next to the battery. Its gonna be an aluminum tube with a black cap. Now there are 2 ports one is high pressure one is low pressure they are different sizes, the gauge will only fit the low pressure side. Turn the A/C on max cool and check the psi, it should be around 35 if its not then get the can of R-134a that goes with the gauge and top it off. Make sure you get the can with oil mixed in too. Mine was blowing warm a month or 2 ago and I topped it off for $20 now it blows ice cold.
Of course if something else is wrong with your a/c then this will not help.
