cam chain adjuster seal
I'm planning on to buy a used 02 a4 1.8T Quattro which has a cam chain adjuster seal.
It was found during a safety inpection. Dealer is trying to charge 420 bucks for fixing it. I want to drive it to my mechanic who is about 600 miles away. Do you think it's safe to do that? The dealer says "large oil leak" and do not mention what category it is.
Thanks.

Never seen one leaking so bad that it would dump oil so bad it wasnt drivable. Unless part of the seal is missing you should be fine to drive it that far. I would check the oil every 100 miles.
With only removal of a few bolts you could do it yourself, you don't need to compress the tensioner or even move it at all, just undo the bolts holding it down and slide out the oldgasket and slide in the new one.
