Apparently my cam tensioner/adjuster is bad or something as its leaking a little oil.. I got quoted $450 to replace including labor? Decent price?

 

Also, is it something I shouldnt put off too long? What exactly does a bad cam adjuster effect?

 

I think the mechanic means the cam shaft adjuster seals are bad, a bad cam chain tensioner repair would cost you well over $1,000

 

My fault, you are correct. Is this a big deal? Is their price reasonable? Will it effect performance, do I have time to replace it, or should it be done ASAP?

 

The seal itself only costs $5 on ecs tuning.com, and you need a new valve cover gasket. Its not a bad price but they are really ripping you off because it doesn't take any longer then 1 hour to change the seal.
You need to use a special tool to compress the tensioner, then un-bolt it and you can fish it out with a small pick. If you haven't done it i would just have the shop do it for you. This is the tool you would need.

 

P.S its not a big deal un-less its leaking really bad.
