Cannot Isolate Noise
Well Gentlemen first let me give you the rundown. 2000 A4 1.8T 45K on the clock benn babied since 36K. Roughly 2 months ago a noise arose from my engine that coencided with engine RPM and was more pronounced when cold. It almost sounded as if the Timing belt was wining or there was air in the Power steering System. So immediately I changed the Timing belt and the two roller assemblies and tensioner. That didn't fix it so I took the serpentine belts off and started the engine to see if it was an accesory making the noise(no dice). Then I used my Vag tool to see if there were any faults(no dice). It has been parked since the Audi dealer cannot give me a straight answer concerning the noise and would rather not destoy a perfectly good car. I am reaching out for help to anyone who may have run across this noise because I cannot isolate it even withe old screwdriver to ear trick. I have Ideas as to what it may be(Chain tensioner, Hall sending unit) but would rather not spend money on something that I'm not sure is broken.
