Cant communicate with ecu /ecm????
I had another thread goinghere https://www.audiforums.com/m_564605/tm.htm but alot has happened since so I wanted to start a new one. Quick overview - replaced engine in my 98 1.8t with one from a 99a4 1.8t and it will crank but not start. What i'm tring to figure out now is why I cant scan the ecu. My scan tool says no commincation. I replaced the ecu today and still no luck. I think its a wire we forgot to hook up. If we missed an engine ground would that cause the ecu not to communicate with the scan tool? I checked all the fuses and there good. Im really stumped on this one and need some help.
I dont have a pic that shows a 2.8 engine, but the grounds might be the same.. Here is one spot to double check:

Here is a blurry diagram that says there is a ground in the "battery box."

I know it says 98 and you have a 99 engine, but its the same engine code.

I hate it when people get help on the forum and dont reply back on how they fixed the problem so anyway I got it fixed and details are here https://www.audiforums.com/m_573053/.../tm.htm#573680
