Default car problem

ok so i changed my air filter today and it was runnin fine. but tonight my car had a small lose of power once and died two or three times. so i went to the air filter because that was the last thing i messed with. no on the air box for the filter. there is this little rubber circle thing on top with one hose/wire running off it. that got shifted a little when i changed my air filter today. now that got moved a little when i went to my airbox earlier and my car just died. so i loosened it pushed it back in a little to see if that was the problem. and it is. the engine speed changes a lot when that is messed with. so im gonna run some codes tomorrow to see what it says cause now my check engine light is one. my car has also said it needs to be serviced but when i ran codes nothin came up. so my main question is, what is that little round piece with the wire/hose and has anyone had this problem and how can i fix it.

That would be your Mass Air Flow sensor.
