I have an Audi A4 quatro, 1.8- on the way to work today all of the lights in my gear panel were lit up. Usually (obviously) only the gear that I am in is lit up. While all of the gears were lit up, I couldn't really feel my car shift but it went up to about 60 and started laboring a bit after that, so I kept it under 60. When traffic picked up and I stopped, I could feel the car kick out of gear. Is this an electrical issue?

 

Its your transmisson pc, the module on top of your tranny is going, that happened to me before get it checked before things really brake

 

great, thanks for the reply, I put about $1,200 in the car in the last few weeks- first some tube broke and messed up other tubes...then it wouldn't go in reverse...killin me here!

 

They arent Cheap i know, but ya you are looking at another few hundred the modules arent cheap.

 

Good god, I gotta run and teach now but any other info. would be great.....so nothing electrical? Not hazard lights are on but those damn lights that tell what gear I'm in are all lit !

 

Your transmission is in limp mode. Only 4th gear and reverse will work. Either something is very wrong with the tranny or the transmission control module. You will have to get someone with a vagcom to get the transmission codes.
