Default car won't go in gear

Lately I was hearing some thumping sounds coming from under like the wheel base or w/e but I paid no attention to it. So I was driving and made a left turn and I couldn't put the car in gear. No gear @ all not even reverse. When I try and put the car in gear (any gear) it makes a grinding noise. Can any1 tell me what this could be.

internal problem or just the drive shaft splines have stripped ( the grinding sounds like a problem I had with an Audi 100 ) and it turned out I had to replace the drive shaft/ half shaft

Yow, I hope that's not it. That happened to me on my Z, and it turned out that one of the springs in the clutch disk had broken out of its mounting, turned sideways, and jammed the disk against the flywheel. I couldn't disengage the clutch.

That happened to one of my friends on his Stang. Blew out his rear DIfff. Couldnt get it in or out of gears etc. We were stuck on a hilll, now that sucked.

I would tow it to a shop have them take a look at it. Could be multipule things and you dont want to take apart one thinking thats it when your completly wrong.

oh oh oh i know. was it a rather sharp turn? look and see if you half shaft came apart from the wheel bearing. it happend to me and did the EXACT same thing. it makes a grinding noise when you step on it in gear, and you basicly cant move whatsoever. it happend to me going around a sharp corner, then i went to step on the gas, and nothing.

Yeah I got the same issue. Actually just logged on to see if anyone had a similar issue. I took off from a stop light, at a moderate speed. It felt like it popped out of gear and it lost all movement. Stick stayed in gear, tried to get her back in gear. All I get is the same grinding noise when giving the car gas. Sounds like, in my mind, a axle spline spinning against hub. . idk. I'm bout to get under the car and see what I can find. I'll keep you guys posted with how I'm making out. lata

Markus, what was the problem? Were the splines stripped out of the hub or off the axle?

Quick little story about how I think all this started happening with my car. Long story short, i had a lab top on my shifter while the car was running as I when to get out of the car the computer shifted weight and was trying the shove the car in 4th gear. the gears were grinding for 4-6 seconds. Now everytime i try to go into 4th there is a small grinding noise. But just a few days later the car has been getting stuck into gear. It has happend 4 times in about a week and half. Where should I start?
