i have a 97 A4. I just got an Alpine CD changer for free. I also have a Alpine CD player in the dash and it has cd changer controls. Does anyone know if I can use the cable that was already ran from the factory? It's the same 8 pin plug. Do you think I will have to buy an adapter?

I'm pretty sure you can if the cd changer and the cable have some number of plugs, if not probably get a new cd changer

 

Yes all 1997's have the 8 pin changer cable in the trunk. It is located on the drivers side wheel well. You will have to pull back the carpet liner. It should be wrapped in a chunk of foam. It is a tricky one to find I must warn you.
