I have a 01 1.8T manny, and i was looking to chip it, Giac preferably.

I am looking to an agressive KO4 in the future.

So should i just jump to KO4 without chip, or would the chip benefit the KO4 setup at all?

chip with the k04 or chip first because your car needs to know you got that bigger turbo on there*...you might also wanna upgrade ur dv because the stock dv wont be able to handle the higher levels of boost

first i installed the giac chip cause i have a tip shift and i wanted my shifts to be faster...then i got the bigger turbo and just had the k04 software added on top of my giac chip. i'd say get it all at once and do it that way

anyway, the chips whole purpose is to tell your engine that you have a bigger turbo and that things need to be adjusted to accomidate it with things like a/f ratio etc

 

first of all get it straight.. to CHIP a car means to get new software for the ecu.

second of all a ko4 will be the same thing as a ko3 if you dont have the proper software.

so YES, you need to get the KO4 SOFTWARE (CHIP) TO BE ABLE TO USE THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE KO4 UNIT and supporting mods.

If you just put in a KO4 without the proper software, it will be like runing a KO3.

put in the K04, then build it up with necessary components... (i.e. FMIC, Injectors, Programming)

injectors and programming are the essentials and the FMIC can come later but if you just drop the K04 in you can basically just build on top of it as you go along which is nice...
