Chip question
Hi
I was just thinking if you can get a minimum of 30 hp with a chip why doesn't Audi do it factory direct?
There has to be a reason why they don't do it. I for one would have bought a 1.8t or a 2.0t if it was chipped from the factory.

Theres a few reasons why I think they don't. The cars are built with reliability in mind. I believe this is the first priority but they keep performance in mind. Also the turbo will be working almost double what it does stock and the fuel pump and injectors have to work harder as well. It seems like a dealer would be able to make more money buy making it like a performance package with performance ecu, but then they would be liable for any damage under warranty.
Your probably right but man is it a total waste, If they invested $1500 more they could chip it and build it to higher spec's.
While l now have the 3.0 l would have enjoyed instead of 220 hp maybe 275 hp and that would get the A4 moving. Now if l had the extra $$$ l would have the S4.

1. lower insurance for their customers
2. so they have a range of cars
3. reliability
4. target clientel
its the same reasons any car can be moddified, if they all came done up, their would be very few cars that fit the customers needs. my sisters both had a4's at one point and neither needed the power they had stock. same reason your computer isnt as "fast" and able to store as much memory as possible. decent question though

I like SpeedTuning's schpiel:
Why doesn't the producer perform the engine tuning by themselves?
The manufacturers design cars and engines for the worldwide market. In different countries many factors, including extreme heights, hot and/or dry climates, poor fuel quality etc command a general ECU software setting. The conditions in Europe and North America are not that extreme, so there is enough tolerance for chip tuning. The HP can also be a political decision, like the 1.9l TDi 90HP engine represents a certain car tax level in some European countries.
