Default Chipping 1.8T Auto?

Anyone ever tried chipping the 1.8T (AWT 150HP) that has an Auto Tranny? I was told that by doing so, it could destroy the tranny (premature wear). Is this true?

No thats not true.. But of course the more power, the more strain on the mechanical parts, the less lifetime it will have. I belveive the auto tranny on our cars can reliably handle upwards toward 250 hp/Tq. It wouldnt be a great idea to do much more than a chip with an auto tranny... A k04 maybe.. But I have heard of people doing much more than that with their auto's with no problems. THe a4 auto tranny is known to be very "bullet proof" and withstand lots of power (less 300 hp). I have a chipped auto and so far i havent noticed anything negative. Pay attention to the posts and do searches, if you hear something bad believe it, and vice versa, you will find that you wont hear much about auto tranny problems no matter what. A chipped auto isnt gunna give you problems.
Who told you it would destroy the tranny?

thanks guys.. so what chip are you guys running with?

We have this dude that service Audi specifcally here locally in Toronto, he said the tip tranny will start slipping anything over 170HP... i was thinking of getting a giac or revo and see if i can get it to aroudn 190

brrman and i both have giac, as indicated in our sigs. For someone who specializes in Audi, he is wrong on that part. They use the same tranny in the 2.8 which has 190 hp or more, someone correct me if im wrong on the 2.8 part.

I have the
APR chip 93 octane which is supposed to be in the range of 210 HP. I've been running it since my car had 80K miles (55K miles ago).

Just a chip will not hurt your tranny.

I have a FWD '02 A4 1.8T Auto that I just added an APR chip to. Question, are all A4 auto transmissions the CVT style or just mine?

Just yours. CVT (continuously variable transmission) are a specific option from Audi. They are much smoother, however weaker. I think they only come in FWD too.

I have a 99.5 A4 1.8t Automatic that has had an APR chip in it for over two year. Not a single issue here I would suggest it to anyone.
