Around here, you won't ever get pulled over for that.
A clear/silver bulb that illuminates amber is the best way to go. It's not like someone won't see them, especially if you have sidemarkers as well. I have clear lights around my car that do this, excluding my front turn signals - the amber bulbs included had contacts that were broken. I'm too lazy to get new bulbs.
