Hello, I have a 97 Audi A4 Quattro Turbo with 62,000 mi. I cannot start the compressor in any way:
neither by manually pushing the A/C buton, nor by pushing the defog buton which used to automatically
turn the compressor on. I was told that this is how it works, because outside it's below 48F degrees and the
compressor cannot be started below this temperature. Is this a feature of this model, that I just missed for
the last 8 years since I have the car ? Thanks.

 

Mine will start below 48 degrees. I think it is closer to 32 degrees.

 

When you say closer to 32F, does that mean that on this model you actually cannot turn the compressor on if the temperature is below
a certain value?

 

correct, the computer disables the ability to turn on the AC. As soon as you press it, the snowflake will flash but will not stay on.
