Default Clutch issues with my 97Q 1.8T

Does anyone have a clue why my car has had an intermittent (first occurred in April 2006, then again in August and now ~ every 2 weeks) problem with the clutch. Sometimes when I depress the clutch, it doesn't release back up when I take my foot off the pedal.

In April, my mechanic replaced the clutch master; clutch slave and hydraulic fluid...and that did the trick for ~4 months...now I'm experiencing the same problem. In addition, I have been hearing a noise (sounds like a large spring brushing against the inside of a tin can) when I'm in 1st or 2nd gear...sometimes I hear it related to when I'm shifting, and sometimes just going at a low speed...and this noise has been increasing in frequency....not sure if that is related to the clutch pedal problem.

At $135K miles, is it time for a new car??

sounds likeyou got a toast clutch and maybe some bad clutch lines casueing the fluid to leak out of loose pressure so your pedal goes dead
