Default Cold air intake better idea?

ok i like the sound of the bov but i dont want a bov. wouldnt it be better to put a cold air intake or a shortram air intake which makes that pufff! sound and it also gives the engine cooler air which i believe is great because when my engine gets really hot it starts to lag and slow down.

this topics been discussed already...but ya the CAI is what would give you colder air. The SRI is hotter air but the pipe is shorter. The "cold" vs "hot" air debate is mostly moot, as the distance we're talking about isn't that big, so no big difference in temperature. Finally, that temperature difference is gone when the car is in motion, there is enough air flow to forceably scavange hot air out of the engine bay to be replaced by colder air. in terms of which would be louder most people say that the SRI is pretty loud but im sure u'd hear a difference in sound either way. Run it with no intake and it will significantly increase both sound and horse way more than the other.(seriously dont do that tho i was only joking u will destroy ur turbo)

I just had the Carbonio CAI installed on my B6 A4 1.8T. I love the way my car 'breathes' now...I can really hear the difference!

CAI in most cases is a scam to get you to spend more money. true cold air is more dense thus better but when you suck that cold air in from outside the car and run it through the engine bay it warms up and thus defating the point. Plus CAI have a better chance of sucking up water and it dosen't take that much to hydrolock an engine
