Default control arm recall

So a lot of people talk about the control arm recall and that it will cover the front lower arms. I talked to my dealer and they asked for service records for the 30,000 miles that the car has been out of warranty. After some calls across the country I got a few receipts and service records.
The service rep at my dealer told me that because my records don't list the suspension as being inspected by an audi dealer that the service manager says I'm not covered.
My rep is a good guy (good friend of a friend) and says he'll talk to a regional manager, but this all seems like some BS. Should I believe these guys? or do I need to lay the smack down?

Oh and if that fails. Could control arms be a DIY?

all i showed my audi tech was a couple oil change receipts...he didn't even look at them until after he replaced the control arms...it's not a recall though, only a service action. if they aren't damaged, they don't have to replace them.

if its not a recall, how much is it going to cost me to get them replaced?

and, what could possibly happen if i wait too long to replace them?

Parts for the upgraded control arms, tie rod ends and associated hardware cost about 550 dollars. Installation is extra, as will be the 4 wheel alignment.

IF they are the original control arms and they are damaged, then they will replace them, free of charge.

i'm almost positive it can't be recalled on my car because i dont have the certified audi maintenance record at 90,000 miles (which i hear you need to have done)

thanks for the info though fellas....

1. It isn't a recall. It is a service action.

2. I don't believe that they can require you to have them checked at a dealer. Ask to see the service action letter from Audi

That is not required. All you have to do is have original audi control arms installed. If they are bad they replace them free. Your dealer is being a pain in the butt. Lots of people have had them changed without service records.

what's the difference between a service action and recall? i know in recall, the dealer fixes it free of charge. is that the case with a 'service action' too?
